Application Instructions

Follow these steps for optimal results with Ciranova Reactive Stain. Always test on a small, inconspicuous area or sample board first, as results vary by wood type, sanding, preparation, and amount applied. The final color depends on these factors, so testing is recommended.

Preparation:

Make sure that all old finish coats are completely removed and that the wood is free from dust and other dirt.
Can be used on sanded (P 100-120 grit), planed, and brushed wood.
Pre-wetting the wood can reduce the risk of overlapping.

Mixing:

Stir and shake well before and during use.
Can easily be mixed with one another to achieve the desired color; blend with Reactive Stain Clear for lighter tones.

Application:

Apply ample reactive stain evenly in the direction of the wood fiber, and smoothen afterwards.
Reactive stain can be applied using a brush or spray gun and subsequently smoothened with a brush or mop.
CAUTION: This is a reactive stain. Make sure that the stain is evenly applied.

Drying and Reaction:

Drying time: 6 hours.
Respect the reaction time because surrounding temperature, atmospheric humidity, and ventilation can influence the reaction time.
Reactive stain can ‘pop’ the grain, so it is suggested that you smoothen the surface after the full reaction time with a buffing pad.

Protection:

Afterward, the surface should be made dust-free, prior to finishing with an oil or waterborne finish from the Ciranova® product line (e.g., Hardwaxoil Magic for on-site finishing).
For waterborne finishes such as varnishes, we recommend spraying to prevent any risk of partial color dissolution—avoid rolling or brushing these directly over the reactive stain.

Additional Tips:
